Spatial Distribution of Highland Cattle in Alnus viridis Encroached Subalpine Pastures

چکیده

Green alder ( Alnus viridis ) is a shrub species that has expanded over former pastures in Central Europe due to land abandonment, leading negative agri-environmental impacts, such as reduction forage yield and quality an increase nitrate leaching. Robust livestock breeds Highland cattle could be used control A. encroachment. The objectives of this study were investigate the impact encroachment on plant community composition diversity map spatial distribution viridis- encroached pastures. During summer 2019, three different herds placed along gradient. A total 58 botanical surveys carried out before grazing assess composition, pastoral value, ecological indicator values. was studied during whole period by monitoring six eight cows equipped with GPS collars each herd. Plant associated higher values vegetation found areas lower cover, while highly dominated few nitrophilus shade-tolerant broad-leaved ferns. Cattle spent more time value but did not avoid high cover , steep slopes or far from water. These results show are able tolerate harsh environmental conditions they can exploit -encroached This suggests have potential reduce long-term.

Diarylheptanoids from Alnus viridis ssp. viridis and Alnus glutinosa: Modulation of Quorum Sensing Activity in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Diarylheptanoids from the barks of Alnus viridis ssp. viridis (green alder) and Alnus glutinosa (black alder) were explored for anti-quorum sensing activity. Chemicals with anti-quorum sensing activity have recently been examined for antimicrobial applications. The anti-quorum sensing activity of the selected diarylheptanoids was determined using two biosensors, namely Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA...

Pleistocene occupation of New Guinea’s highland and subalpine environments

New Guinea’s mountains provide an important case study for understanding early modern human environmental adaptability and early developments leading to agriculture. Evidence is presented showing that human colonization pre-dated 35ka (ka1⁄4 thousands of uncalibrated radiocarbon years before present) and was accompanied by landscape modification using fire. Sorties into the subalpine zone may h...

Patterns of livestock activity on heterogeneous subalpine pastures reveal distinct responses to spatial autocorrelation, environment and management

BACKGROUND In order to understand the impact of grazing livestock on pasture ecosystems, it is essential to quantify pasture use intensity at a fine spatial scale and the factors influencing its distribution. The observation and analysis of animal activity is greatly facilitated by remote tracking technology and new statistical frameworks allowing for rapid inference on spatially correlated dat...

Spatial occupancy patterns and activity of arid rangeland cattle grazing small riparian pastures.

The spatial occupancy patterns and activity of cattle grazing three riparian pastures was investigated in northeastern Oregon using Global Positioning System (GPS) collars logging at 1-sec intervals. Cattle consistently selected plant communities as grazing areas that had forage in sufficient volume to meet their requirements and favored communities as resting areas that were dry and open. Catt...

The Importance of Groves for Cattle in Semi-Open Pastures

Groves are of ecological importance, but can reduce the productivity of pastures. They may be used by cattle for nutrition as well as for comfort and shelter. To describe the importance and to estimate the influence of cattle on groves, the behavior of cattle around trees and shrubs was observed on six semi-open pastures in the mountain range of Thuringia and the Southern Black Forest (Germany)...
